Symphytum x uplandicum 'Axminster Gold'
Boraginaceae
ORIGIN: Garden Origin
USDA PLANT HARDINESS ZONE: 5-9
SOIL: Moist-Rich Soil/Moderate Drainage
EXPOSURE: Full Sun
GENERAL HABIT: Herbaceous perennial. Flowering
stems can reach 6 feet tall. Foliage stays at about 24"
tall and 50" wide.
FOLIAGE: Roughly pubescent, long lanceolate leaves
of medium green edged with a wide gold edge. Center
fades to grey green and yellow edge holds color
compared to S. x uplandicum 'Variegatum', who's edges
turn a cream/white color.
FLOWER: Tall racemes of pale blue tubular flowers
tinted in purple/pink in late June.
COMMENTS:
A much sought after perennial that is quite rare in the
trade because of it's difficultly in propagating itself.
Root cuttings typically will produce all green plants.
'Axminster Gold' must be divided at the crown or
flowering stem cuttings be rooted. There is still a small
percentage that will not come true via these methods.
Spectacular in the border as a specimen plant.
