GENERAL HABIT: Evergreen vine. Sprawling growth
habit with several hooked spines that attach to
surrounding plants or supports.
STEM & FOLIAGE: Glabrous, deep green foliage
with cream white pubescence on the undersides.
Densely pubescent immature stems and foliage with
several hooked spines.
FLOWER & FRUIT: Early-Mid Summer white to pale
pink flowers. Late summer-fall edible fruit.
COMMENTS:
A rare, uncommon and ornamental species for its
evergreen foliage. Can grow aggressively, but has not
shown itself to be invasive or problematic in
competing with other species. This species is best
grown as a "weaver" in amongst deciduous trees and
shrubs for winter interest or grown with assorted vines
in an arbor or trellis.
