Lilium 'Miss Lucy' (Oriental Hybrid)
Liliaceae
ORIGIN: Garden Origin
USDA PLANT HARDINESS ZONE:
5-8
SOIL:
Rich, well drained soil.
EXPOSURE:
Full Sun - Part Shade
GENERAL HABIT:
Hardy bulb. Flowering stems rises 3-6ft.
FOLIAGE:
Broadly narrow deep green.
FLOWER:
Primarily blooming in July-August. 4-6 inches, slightly up
to outfacing blooms are a soft white with pale pink suffused
throughout the ruffly, multi-petalled blossoms that often
don't open fully. Softly fragrant.
COMMENTS:
A most exciting introduction as many drooled over the
photos when bulbs were released on the wholesale market.
From personal experience, it has been somewhat of a
disappointment as the flowers have difficulty opening fully
even when grown in full sun and well amended soil. I later
tried it in part shade and it was far more disappointing. I'm
not sure if it was meant for greenhouse production or its
just very particular about its location. Perhaps it needs a
richer soil with more water, more humidity or more
protection for the flowers to fully open.

L. 'Miss Lucy in the gardens of Old Goat Farm in Orting,
WA. Grown in mostly shade, the flowers appear to open,
but browning botrytis of the older tepals ruin the otherwise
interesting flower.
My first batch of L. 'Miss Lucy' grown in full sun. These
were the best of the lot, but they failed to fully open and
just started browning at the edge and most of the other buds
aborted.
